Overview

Performs the functions of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Certified Medical Assistant (MA) in supervising, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating in the clinical area. Calls for high level of independent judgment. Ability to set patient care as a priority. Plans, supervises, and coordinates daily activities of the Medical Assistants. Assists in the training and orientation of new employees.   

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved nursing education or medical assisting degree program.
  • Active valid licensed as an LPN in the state of Georgia or certification as a medical assistant, with more than ten (10) years’ experience.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in an ambulatory health care setting as well as possess expertise in management of a clinical medical assistant.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) training or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing procedures in an ambulatory health care setting and clinical expertise.
  • Background in working with adult, pediatric and multi-cultural populations.
  • Familiarity in case management with obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.
  • Proficiency in athenaOne EHR.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Excellent phone etiquette.
  • Working expertise of the Microsoft Office programs including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the supervisor and processes walk-in patients for the Stone Mountain and Decatur locations.
  • Performs and directs nursing care and patient education as appropriate.
  • Develops and monitors patient care plans for assigned patients. Facilitates treatments or procedures ordered by providers and assists them with any procedures when necessary.
  • Facilitates patient flow in the medical treatment area and assures the accuracy and completion of medical records.
  • Works with the supply ordering staff to maintain adequate stock of medical supplies and assures that equipment is in good repair and working order. Assures that all clinical record logs and reports are accurately and thoroughly prepared, and that they are submitted in a timely manner.     
  • Assists in supervising and staffing of the medical assistants as needed for efficient operation of the practice.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Educator and clinical leadership team to facilitate the training and onboarding of the clinical support staff.
  • Continues to maintain appropriate nursing licensure, as applicable and/or certifications through clinical medical education or continuing educational units.
  • Participates in any pertinent in-service education planned by the practice to improve job performance.
  • Routinely checks and maintains the emergency cart stationed on the clinic floor.
  • Works with medical emergencies under the supervision of the RN and/or MD, identifies and takes appropriate actions on medical emergencies as specified by BCLS protocols.
  • Collaborates with the quality engagement and case management team.
  • Participates in off-site activities which include meetings, seminars, workshops, health fairs, and community presentations.
  • Assists in maintaining Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Joint Commission, Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) regulations for MedCura Health.
  • Supports and adheres to administrative and nursing policies and procedures.
  • Initiates cardiac monitoring via 2-lead or 12-leave EKG’s specified by the provider.
  • Provide excellent customer service.
