Overview

The Lead Patient Access Representative coordinates the registration functions and support the
objectives of the revenue cycle. The duties of this position require the exercise of courtesy and
patience in speaking with patients, families, and others to maintain sound customer service Position
requires self-motivated individual who can handle high patient volumes and fast pace This position
will have a variety of administrative and leadership tasks.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a customer service position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years appointment scheduling experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years healthcare and directorial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of current procedural terminology, ICD-9 coding, and other related billing policies
    and procedures.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Excellent phone etiquette.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Patient Access Manager to define duties and responsibilities of staff; assigns work,
    monitors progress of work, and ensures timely completion of assigned tasks.
  •  Assists with departmental workflow as needed, ensures timely registrations by staff, and
    cross-trains in other Access Departments and Facilities
  • Maintains thorough understanding of insurance, registration, scheduling, referrals,
    authorizations, and account follow-up.
  • Identifies, handles, and notifies manager of issues and initiates appropriate action for
    resolution.
  • Serves as point person for employee questions.
  • Coordinates and/or leads team huddles, meetings, and coordinates workflow.
  • Obtains demographic and insurance information for preregistration/registration on all
    patients.
  • Familiar with ICD-10 coding, medical terminology.
  • Communicates with physician offices, staff, and other departments pace.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental applications and other systems utilized by Patient
    Access.
  • In addition, the Lead Patient Access is responsible for knowing/doing all aspects of the
    Patient Access Representative job duties.
  •  Performs other duties as required.
